1973 Honda CB500 Four K2 1976 Honda CB750 Four K6
I have owned the two Honda's now since early 1999 They had been owned by an enthusiast in Bury St Edmund who had rebuilt/restored them to original using new genuine Honda parts in the 1980's and stored them. On talking to the guy I discovered that he had decided to buy a modern superbike and so traded them in to Chris Revett from where I bought them. Last year (winter 2000) I rebuilt the top end of the CB750, and added a new clutch, I've covered about 5k on the CB750 in the past 2yr's but only 500 miles on the CB500, maybe next year ? My other bikes to follow later, (Kawasaki KLF400 Quad, Kawasaki AR 125, Honda CB250 Superdream) I might even mention my other transport media, Astra 16v GTE, Jeep Cherokee 4Ltr and my International Digger !! Coming Soon ... My winter hack, and one of the most fun bikes I've ridden in a long time the Honda CB Sevenfifty (RC42).....
Honda CB Sevenfifty (RC42) Ok so its been a long wait but this is the RC42. I bought this bike in November 2002 as a winter hack but its seen more miles than I ever expected it to, If you want a bike that will get you from A to B quietly but have that spark of excitement of a high reving in-line 4 then you could do a lot worse than an RC42. Minor niggles are exhaust rusts where the road kack collects on the hidden under parts (but takes well to patch welding if you want to save money and have the equipment to do so), can be a bit noisy at times on the self adjusting tappets but an oil change usually sorts that one, Oh and with its low-down grunt it can be a bit sneaky and pop you off onto the ground but only when your riding in 4" of snow on adverse camber corners lol. Just for the love of it I also host a site dedicated to the RC42, www.sevenfifty.co.uk checkout the new forum there if you're interested.
Well the bike list has grown a bit, and the barn/workshop has been up now for > 2 years @ 08/04 and is getting a bit crowded. (CB750 x 2, CB500 x2, Nighthawk x1, RC42 x 1.5, CB650 x 1, AR125 x 1, TU250 x 1, KLF400 x 1 and a KLT200 x 1, Newest edition VFR800 FiY), the 250 Super Dream went to my brother as a off-road buggy project "as good a use as any in my opinion".
Update: 07/2011 .. The Astra GTE 16v is off the four poster ramp and now just waiting to go into the paint shop for a full respray after a 5 week spurt of work to complete and will soon be back on the road close to new I hope, the Jeep Cherokee 4 Ltr has been Gas powered for some years now and proving to be well worth the £700 investment of the conversion all those years ago., Denise's 1989 Astra SRI went to the scrap yard and I'm kicking myself now for doing that however; she now has a 2001 Mk4 SRI, the Yanmar 1500 4x4 compact tractor has been sold off and replaced by a slightly larger Foton tractor, we also bought a Fiat Ducato van which I converted into a Pony transporter (for our 2 Shetlands), and last but not least the Digger is as trusting as ever and always there ready to go when I just need it. |
